Biographical Sketch

Justyna Niestrawska was born in Raciborz, Poland in 1988 and moved to Germany in 1990. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen University. During her studies she worked as a student assistant at the Chair of Medical Engineering and at the Department of Cardiovascular Engineering, Institute of Applied Medical Engineering. Justyna spent the last year of her studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, where she was introduced to soft tissue mechanics; there she also worked on her Master Thesis. The Thesis dealt with the development of a structure-based constitutive modeling framework for heart failure mechanics.

After completing her Master’s Justyna started her PhD in Biomechanics in January 2014 at the Institute of Biomechanics, Graz University of Technology, Austria, under the direction of Prof. Gerhard A. Holzapfel.
