Biographical Sketch

Dimitris Kiousis was born in Athens, Greece in 1979. He received his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in September 2003. His Masters Thesis titled, 'A continuous adjoint formulation for inverse design and optimization problems in external aerodynamics and turbomachinery' was performed at the Laboratory of Thermal Turbomachines (LTT) under the supervision of Prof. K.C. Giannakoglou. After graduating, Dimitrios moved to Graz, Austria, and joined Prof. G.A. Holzapfel's research group of Computational Biomechanics as a doctoral student. In December 2004 Dimitrios moved further to Stockholm, Sweden. There, he continued working on his project at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), where he obtained the Degree of Licentiate in Engineering on January 26th 2007. In March 2007, he rejoined the Graz University of Technology as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Biomechanics. On September 16th Dimitrios successfully defended his Ph.D. Thesis titled, 'Biomechanical and computational modeling of atherosclerotic arteries: Insights into plaque vulnerability and vascular stenting'. Soon after that, Dimitrios accepted the position of Development Engineer at Volvo Aero Corporation located at Trollhättan, Sweden. His research interests include Computational Solid Mechanics, Contact Mechanics, Biomechanics and Mechanobiology, and Finite Element methods. Dimitrios passionately loves triathlon, and spear-fishing.
