Biographical Sketch

Daniel Ziesel was born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1993. After graduating from high school in 2012, he began his civilian service as a paramedic with the Austria Red Cross. From 2013, he studied mechatronics at UMIT Tirol and the University of Innsbruck, completing his bachelor’s degree in 2016. He then pursued a master's degree in biomedical engineering at Graz University of Technology, graduating in 2019. He is currently working on his PhD at the institute of Biomechanics under the supervision of Gerhard A. Holzapfel and Theresa Rienmüller. His research focuses on the electrophysiology of neuronal and cardiac cells. He investigates electrical activity and stimulation effects using microelectrode arrays (MEAs) and optoelectronic biointerfaces.
