Biographical Sketch
Julia Fuchs completed her Master's degree in Molecular Microbiology and Clinical Embryology at University Graz and the Medical University of Graz. Her research focused on the detection of tumor heterogeneity in colon cancer tissue and the detection of fetal cell-free DNA from maternal blood plasma for prenatal genetic testing.
She continued her academic career at the Medical University of Graz, where she earned her Ph.D. in Medical Sciences (Dr. scient. med.). Her doctoral research focused on the development of a 3D cell culture model for studying early trophoblast invasion in human placental tissue, thus making a significant contribution to the understanding of human reproduction and placental development.
After completing her Ph.D., Julia conducted postdoctoral research in the Dagmar Brislinger research team at the Division of Cell Biology, Histology, and Embryology. Her focus was on trophoblast invasion using advanced imaging techniques and organoid models. She then continued her postdoctoral research in the Ruth Prassl research team at the Division of Medical Physics and Biophysics, Medical University of Graz. There, she applied bioelectronic materials and 3D models to investigate neuronal tissue dynamics and disease mechanisms, applying histology, ultramicroscopy, and nanoparticle characterization techniques. She then moved to Graz University of Technology, where she worked at the Institute for Health Care Engineering with a focus on biomaterials, tissue engineering and 3D cell culture perfusion systems. In 2024, she completed her Habilitation in "Cell Biology, Histology and Embryology" at the Medical University of Graz, further consolidating her expertise in this field.
Since August 2025, Julia Fuchs has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Biomechanics at Graz University of Technology and the Division of Cell Biology, Histology and Embryology at the Medical University of Graz. In these positions, she works to bridge the gap between cell biology and biomechanics, focusing on the advancement of 3D cell culture models, tissue engineering, bioelectronic applications, and precision imaging techniques.
